Municipalities face complex challenges across a wide range of policy areas and must engage with diverse stakeholders—from local interest groups to national ministries. A municipality in the southern Netherlandswants to better equip its key civil servants to effectively represent the interests of the municipality and its residents in strategic discussions and negotiations with external parties.
Approach by IvCB
Together with the municipality, IvCB designed an interactive Public Affairs training program. The training alternates between theoretical insights into decision-making processes and hands-on, real-world experience from IvCB trainers in the fields of lobbying, media engagement, and coalition-building. Participants also gain insight into why some municipal lobbying efforts succeed while others fail. Through practical exercises in strategy development, message crafting, and coalition formation, participants are immediately able to apply what they learn.

The training ensures that municipal staff are now well-prepared to represent their local interests effectively. They understand both the strategic frameworks and the practical realities of public affairs.
