Developing profiling strategy for a regional grid operator

Expertise:

A regional grid manager faces many challenges and can no longer see the wood for the trees. From IvCB, we help them set priorities and raise their profile.

The challenge

In 2017, the regional grid operator is struggling with the many issues facing the company, such as energy transition, ending gas extraction in Groningen and climate measures such as making homes natural gas-free. All these topics bring many challenges for the company. For instance, the grid operator would like to be seen and recognised as a director of energy transition. To achieve this and meet the many other challenges, the organisation asks us for support in public affairs and communication.

IvCB’s approach

First, we determine what the priority files are for the grid operator. We do this by making a link between the interests of the grid operator and those of stakeholders. What is the communication value of a dossier, what expertise and distinctive qualities does the grid operator have in that dossier and how can the organisation profile itself on that subject? Second, we map in detail the main stakeholders and the force field. We also look at how the priority dossiers touch the interests of all relevant stakeholders. Finally, we develop a vision and action plan for each priority file. From different angles, we develop key messages for profiling.

The result for the client

The grid manager gains a clear focus on which topics in public affairs and communication should receive special attention. Stronger cooperation between the Communication and Public Affairs departments is created and the organisation succeeds in profiling itself and representing its interests well. The organisation is cleverly anticipating the Provincial Council elections and is increasingly seen as the director of energy transition in its catchment area.
